Hebbal is a prime housing area in the northern part of Bangalore, India. It is located at the junction of Bellary Road and the Outer Ring Road. Its history dates back over 1,300 years. The name derived from the name Perbolal, which was later changed to Pebbol and then Hebbal.
At least four inscription stones have been found in excavations in this area. One from 750 AD mentions Kittayya, who may have been the first registered dweller of Bangalore. It has Hebbal Lake, which was one of three lakes built by Kempe Gowda in 1537. The Lake was a key source of drinking water for this area and the center of an agriculture-based economy.
